Here’s an interesting idea - a guy has created system for
multimedia streaming called BitTorrent that uses P2P broadband
sharing. Thus, rather than having the content source get hammered on
bandwidth use, it spreads out so that every user is streaming a small
portion of everything. Kind of like a P2P, automated version of Akamai.

I just got my longest Where’s
George hit, 2 years and 77 days since the last entry. Oddly, this
is a bill that was first hit 3 days after I entered it, and then not
at all for the next 807 days.
Turns out that my first night in San Francisco there will be a
presentation on the history of the Simpsons at the Cartoon Art Museum,
but that it is already sold out. Oh well. There is an Edward Gorey
exhibit there currently, so that’s cool. I think I’ll probably be able
to easily fill the whole time they are open (11 AM to 5 PM) one day.

This weekend I’ll be travelling with my wife to San Francisco to
attend the winter meeting of the American Geophysical Union. She’s
presenting a poster there on her research, and me, I have no
responsibilities whatsoever, except to bum around SF for several
days. One thing I know I’ll be doing is to spend some time at the Cartoon Art Museum. I hadn’t
realized it would go this way when we were planning these trips, but
I’ll have spent five consecutive weeks without doing a full five day work
week. Not a terribly bad deal for me.
