This one via my underworked friend from Kansas, Kevin. It’s a story
about a Mac guy who
caught a scam artist with the help of a group of Mac enthusiasts.
There is one line in the update I don’t understand:
Update 12/13/02 11:28 CST: Harlan Ellison just called me. I feel all
warm and fuzzy inside. It looks like I’m going to be on CNET Radio
tonight. Tune in.
Why in the world does Harlan Ellison care? I know he is no Mac enthusiast.

Tonight we’re going to the Border’s books in Midtown. Paul Melancon,
Josh Joplin, Tift Merritt and the Indigo Girls will be there doing a
singer/songwriter roundtable and signing autographs. I’ve been
thinking about writing the Indigo Girls a letter thanking them for
their support of WREK for a while now. I might do it today and try to
give it to them tonight. We Shall See.

I’m considering buying a new old Macintosh. There is a guy in North
Atlanta that I’ve bought a printer and a monitor from in the
past. He’s selling several Black and White G3s in the $300 range. I’ve
decided that I may never buy another new computer or new car
again. I’d rather buy them a year or three old, after the steep part
of the depreciation curve is over. I’m still using my Performa 6400
that I bought in 1997 when it was on clearance. This is 50% faster on
clock speed, but with the G3 chip, faster bus, and video RAM I think
it will feel significantly faster. Since the Performa can’t run OS X
the 8.6 I currently run is the end of the line for it. I’d like to
play with it, particularly since I’m comfortable fooling with the Unix
guts underneath it.
