I’m on the verge of getting washed away by cool things again. The same
guy who pointed me towards CRM has now pointed me something similar
but in many ways superior - POPFile. This is another
Bayesian filter dealio, but this one is a proxy through which you run
your mail. This proxy maintains a history of what has run through it,
and has a built-in web server that provides a GUI to manage training
sets. It also allows for multiple buckets, so you can train the spam,
work, personal, or whatever matters to you. It will add a header to
all mail that runs through it, so your mail clients could filter based
on the classification that POPFilter did. One of the big problems is
that when you set up filters on Outlook or Eudora, none of that is
portable. This way, the classification exists in your mail no matter
what you use to read it. Cool idea. At the moment, I am now drowning
in Bayesian stuff.

I have turned the RSS feed back on for this blog. The downside is that
BlogMax generates some
funky and suboptimal RSS. For example, it makes one entry with just
the page title and nothing in it, then the rest of the page without
any titles (BlogMax doesn’t have story titles anyway.) Since I’ve been playing with Zoe and using
it as a RSS aggregator, I might as well be using it for myself, no?
I’m half considering finding a new blogging tool. I would consider
using Radio, although I really prefer being able to use it via my
Linux box whilst SSH’d in. I don’t really want a Windows desktop app
to be required. Time to do some research.

I forgot where I found it, but when I pulled up my Mozilla just now it
was on this page, one
that catalogs GWB photo ops at places for which he is proposing
budget cuts. That seems to be a cornerstone of this presidency - say
whatever platitudes you think people want to hear and then do whatever
the hell you want. No one will ever notice. Thus far, it seems to be
working for them.

So I solved the mystery of the e-mail I got yesterday about
Szwarc, the author of Zoe. The next mystery is how this weblog,
unafilliated with anything like blogger.com or userland.com, not yet
indexed by Google, was found by Raphael within 3 days from when I
wrote the entry. I strongly suspect that he has some Seriously Cool
Shit that he is running for himself that isn’t yet released.
