I changed my mind on this blogging tool issue. I though about it and
rather than abandoning Blogmax, I am a geek so why
not alter the RSS function so that it makes it to my satisfaction? I
can find my way around Lisp (barely) so I went for it. First thing, I
removed the call to automatically upload it (I don’t use that.) Then I
altered it so that rather than breaking a story on the <p> tag
it breaks at the </div>. I already altered it so that my entries
are bracketed by div tags anyway and use that and CSS to draw the
box. By breaking this way I can have
multi-paragraph entries.
Having solved that, I dug on how it found the link, and noticed that
it was looking for the literal string “<a href="”. Mystery
solved! I added a step to skip whitespaces and newlines and voila! The
combination of all this stuff was enough to make me happy so I’m no
longer in the market for a different blogging tool.

Another major label artists defects from the ranks: Natalie
Merchant opts to put out her own CDs (note this is a heinous
registration required link - just put in fake info and don’t check any
of the boxes). I got this link via Boing Boing. Years ago as a
young man, 10,000 Maniacs was one of the first shows I saw at the
Cotton Club on the WREK guest list (one of at least 200 free radio
passes of my college career.) Frankly, if this new material sounds
more like My Mother the War era Maniacs and less like
pop hit Natalie, I’ll jump up and down and buy it.

Years ago I interviewed author Scott Edelman on the radio show and now
I see a cool tidbit on Scott Edelman News
about him and Jack Williamson (someone I never interviewed but wish I
had). Writes Scott:

I’ll be giving a full report later, and posting pictures of the
Williamson ranch and the shack in which Jack wrote his first stories,

Check it out. Scott edited the fantastic magazine (in a few senses of
the word) Science Fiction Age and is a great writer to boot.

I’m listening to programs I have saved from WREK. Today it is all Pure Subgenius Insanity. Every
Saturday night WREK airs the syndicated Subgenius program “The Hour of
Slack” followed by the locally produced “Bob’s Slacktime Funhouse”,
done by our very own Susie “the Floozie” Barrows. Atlanta is mining a
particularly rich mine of slack, something the uptight yuppie assholes
that fill this town desperately need. You can hear both of these
programs live Saturday night (really Sunday morning) from midnight to
2 AM at 91.1 FM or listen to the MP3 archives for Hour of Slack and Bob’s
Slacktime Funhouse. The episode of BSTFH I’m listening to is all
songs from those “Your poem set to music” hack houses. There are some
astonishingly bad songs here, and some so bad they are brilliant. In
the latter category I would put “Blind Man’s Penis,” perhaps the worst
song I’ve ever heard but so bad it is fun. Wow.

Today I have my third of three consecutive lunches with guys I worked
with at WREK in the 80’s. I’ve known all these guys at least 15
years. Can I be old enough to have had friends that long that I didn’t
meet till I was an adult? Aye caramba! This friend is the guy who is
the voice of Lady Jackets basketball and used to be the voice of GT
baseball before the bonerod guys that do it now.
Long ago, Richard was
the guy who did Stardate and I took it over from him. Up until
recently I was still the voice of the successor show, Earth and Sky. Someone deleted my
voiceover and now it is someone else. The horrible secret of the whole
thing is that I always hated Stardate and I hate Earth and Sky.
