Blogosphere

The main reason I installed the ping_weblogs_com plugin yesterday was to play around and see my changes to the weblog get sent to me via blogchangebot. I’m not sure if it was a mistake, because immediately I started getting all kinds of weird hits from all manner of bots and crap. I see a lack of etiquette in many of them that don’t implement simple things like using the “If-Modified-Since” header. One example is the Blogosphere bot, which has hit my blog every 2 hours all night. It has loaded the whole thing each time, even though I have the lastmodified plugin installed to make sure tools know when not to reload it (ie, because nothing has changed.) That’s just not too cool. I also note that although I see the code in Magpie to use it, it doesn’t work right because FeedOnFeeds also reloads the whole thing when it shouldn’t.
