Book Crossing

Today I joined BookCrossing.com. I considered joining before when I had a boatload of paperbacks I was giving to the Goodwill, but balked when I found out they wanted you to put some kind of review in for them. I hadn’t read any of them, so I just bailed. I finally joined today, specifically to register a book. Yep, you guessed it, that same copy of the Clevenger book that has been floating around my workplace. This really worked out good for me, because it isn’t even my copy. Someone else paid for it, and then I get to release it! It seemed odd that I’d be such a devoted Where’s Georger and a devoted bibliophile and yet not belong to BookCrossing. Well, now I’m in.

In an odd way, this might help me get rid of some books that I have read. Now I have incentive, a neat geeky thing I can do by getting these things the hell out of my house. This refilters some of my decisions, and I’m going to take a spin through the bookshelves tonight seeing what things I can stand to part with. This might not be in the intention, but anything that makes me feel like getting rid of things should be acted upon.

I’m getting close to the 6,000 bill mark, and not that long ago crossed the 1,000 hit bill mark. I have a 19% response rate overall, which slowly climbs over time as you get more and more old bills circulating for longer. I’m #23 or 24 in Illinois!
