What about this special Podcasting Vibe? Everybody involved is buzzing with energy and ideas. Deep irritation about futile mishaps has given way to endless goodwill (ALL crucial systems halt while ipodder starts downloading!!) and most are suddenly blessed with a thick skin and flexible ego (nobody gets mad at Dave Slusher, no matter how hard he tries).
Dude, I don’t understand it either. Actually, this was written before the Scalzi incident, so maybe this has since been discredited.

I’m so glad I could be everyone’s monkey, in a very non-Jon Stewart way. I did get suckered into feeding a dude’s ego and I am completely ashamed of myself.<b><b>The funniest part of that is that I had almost had Dave convinced that Scalzi’s original post was a legit thought, until he proved Dave right (but for the wrong reason). Then all of a sudden it was a unified “Fuck THAT guy!”. I won’t get suckered into playing with the monkeys again. Though I might still be one…
No, bro, you did have me convinced in IM. This shows that taking a different tactic, one not predicated on proving that you know exactly what is in my heart, could change my mind. I was trying to talk about what Scalzi said, and he wanted to talk about how I feel. Que sera.
Mike, I’ll buy that. However, Russell Beattie did get mad at stuff I said in the audioblog, so it isn’t impossible. I was hoping to run across him at Bloggercon and talk to him, but I never did see him. In general though, people do have thick skins. Perhaps its because when I’m saying this stuff, you can tell that I’m kidding as I giggle about it and that it isn’t as deadly serious as it seems written in print.
that is the key difference between written and spoken banter - those listening know that when you say “wishing them to the corn field” it’s w/ humor that wouldn’t be as obvious if only written - no wait that’s a bad example, it’s funny either way - and sometimes just the necessary thing to do

Eh. Not really, since I’m not mad at you; I saw our little flame session as one of those Internet things that happens from time to time. You belittled me, I condescended to you, we ranted at cross-purposes, and everyone got a free show.
Should we ever meet in real life, I’ll be happy to admit that I exhibit occasional ass-like tendencies, and then offer you a drink of your choice.
