I used to have a college roommate that carried a beeper shaped like a Star Trek Original Series communicator. He used to talk shit about people that wore slogan t-shirts, so much, you’d think it was a sin. I wish I had heard this Mr. Spock fan vs Dr. Who fans quote back then.

Now, not to be a dork or anything, but this is like the 10th time you’ve let the dissing of podcasting “get to you”, even though you said you wouldn’t. I just want to say, I don’t care if you spend time discussing this or not, in your weblog or in the podcast.

After all, weren’t nearly all webloggers frothing at the mouth at the “CNN bloggers” thing during the party conventions and during the elections?

I say keep on talking about whatever the hell you want, it’s your show, it’s been part of the content of the show, and it’s part of what your audience likes you to froth at the mouth about. Ok, maybe that was a bit of an exageration. I’d like you to feel free discuSsing it, maybe not frothing at the mouth, much.

PJ, I know, I know. The main reason I did it yet again is because that Mr. Spock simile occurred to me and I wanted to get that in permanent form. This is edited down from about 3 times the length when I realized that mostly what I wanted from this post is to get that pithy (and pissy) statement out there. It seems to have been worth it since Eric Rice has already picked up on it.

since “eric” comes before “evil” in my aggregator, i routed through his post “dave slusher is my hero” before seeing your post directly – so yes, dave it was worth it

the spock vs who reference is brilliant…

from my surfer/snowboarder background, it’s similar to the pithy longboard vs shortboard or rider vs skier aggression that occurs…

it’s all about the journey, no matter the tool selected, so jump on, ride and enjoy or shut-up and go home :-p

That guy’s comment made me think of my morning commute. There are five stations that might play music I would enjoy. But NO music, just mindless blather. If EGC and other podcasts are blather, at least, its blather I have sought out and resonate too. If everyone can have there own radio show, the odds of finding something I will like goes up. I don’t see a downside here.

I edited that post down from a much longer one, since I decided my zingy one-liner was the real point. In the longer version I addressed that issue – are jackbooted thugs breaking in your house and making you listen? Having a problem with podcasting is like having a problem when a restaurant serves a cuisine you don’t like – if you don’t like the shit, don’t pursue it. Mark at Brainwagon makes the same point in his link above. It’s self-selected and takes extra steps. There is zero chance of you accidentally receiving a podcast, so if you don’t like it go do something you do like.
