Titled Edge said:

If you encode your podcast as mono it will be half the size.

This is true for WAV files, but not necessarily true for MP3. If your left and right tracks are somewhat similar, using the Joint Stereo option of your MP3 encoder will create a file that is only slightly larger than a mono MP3 of the same content. You can read a good explanation of this from Doug Kaye.

I love throat singing. I do it in my car (not very well). Your new recorder sounds great! My girlfriend wants me to quit doing music. It's not even acceptable as a hobby. The free music site is a great concept but having no catagories is a problem especially if they get a lot more artists. I hate to catogorize yet I can't download everything to find what I want. I tried one russian band from that site and it sucked. I have to mention that where I live I only have one choice for broadband and it is half as fast as the average DSL.

OK, we're back in business. I just mono-ized this episode and republished. I traced the problem back to a boned patch cable. Those digital artifacts I think are actually the way this Marantz clips. I had been misreading the meters on that thing until today and probably had it too hot.

Damn that was a rare collectors item like when they have the same side of a coin on both sides. I'm sorry I wasn't able to snag it while it was up.

I'm sure it was accidental but it does bring to mind a point that many people are not aware of: If you encode your podcast as mono it will be half the size. This show contains music so he probably wouldn't want to do that.

Dave:

Two things; first, Ken is correct, the show only comes out of the left channel with the right side really, really low (almost totally inaudible). The other thing is there are some digital artifacts that I picked up on the ear buds. In my experience this is due to the bitrate, so you might want to bump it up a notch or two.

Liked the show's content; keep up the great work!

Just FYI, Dave...the MP3 for this podcast says that it's stereo, but it appears to only use one channel or something (I'm not a recording weenie, so I don't know the exact terminology). I only hear sound in left ear, is all I know. *grin* It doesn't appear to be me, since I listened to the June 9 file immediately beforehand, and it sounds fine.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else hears anything odd.

I'm guessing it's just settings or something...
