Thanks for your comments on the Mississippi Coast on the show. I grew up in Long Beach, MS. The house where my parents have lived since before I was born was south of the railroad, and has therefore been wrecked beyond repair. I've been posting my comments, and excerpts from my mother's email, on my own weblog. My parents are among the lucky ones; they evacuated well before the storm, and have enough retirement savings to start over somewhere else, whatever they get from insurance and FEMA.

When I was growing up in Long Beach, I hated the place the way Luke hated Tatooine, and couldn't wait to get out. Just the same, it's heartbreaking to see the total destruction of places where I spent well over half my life.

Except for my parents' house, I'm probably grieving more for the damage in New Orleans than for the MS coast. Aside from family memories, I probably have better memories of NO than of Long Beach.

I thought I'd give you all an update on the Red Cross of Palo Alto, CA. I'm sure they are busy.....but as they requested, I submitted my online volunteer application on Saturday. Still haven't heard from them yet. I'm pretty busy at work and time just goes flyin' by, but I will call them tomorrow to try and get some action going.

I figure if they need me anytime in the next few weeks....I can make the time. I'm ready to go wherever and do whatever. I'm earmarking 5-7 days for this. But, they gotta contact me. (I'm not going to just airdrop in on my own with a rubber inflatable and a bunch of photographers, like Sean Penn....)

I'm hoping to listen to the podcast sometime tomorrow and looking forward to it!! Now go rent "Shultze Gets the Blues!!"

And, in the spirit of 2-for-1 comments, I enjoyed the Caesar Bros. as well. Thanks,BB. I'd intended to mention that item in my original comment.

And in real TWAC spirit, I hadn't noticed the photo with the CFR shirt. Thanks for the pointing out the haircut. I've never spent more on may hair in my life than now. When ya' get fewer of 'em like I do, ya' pamper 'em. :)

Hi Dave,
Thanks for helping paint an audio picture of New Orleans- a place I've dreamed about, but not yet visited. Big thumbs up on Caesar Bros.

Dave:

Great show, doin' what you do best, talkin' story.

A couple of quick comments:

My New Orleans moment was shaking the hand of Chef Paul Prudhomme in K-Paul's Restaurant, which was the official restaurant of the group of early-day geeks I was there with.

I think I made a similar comment on James's blog, but your Dad's voice always got a little extra twinkle in it when he talked about going to Biloxi.

I closed my eyes and tried to imagine you in a pickup, in a *suit and tie* in New Orleans. Couldn't do it.

Keep up the good work - thanks for the show.
