The wife and I loaded up the iPod with some holiday music for our Thanksgiving drives to family. The American Heartbreak song came up and did a great job of breaking the holiday tension.

donna- You need to put the "Me" in MEdia. Just press the Record button. It's the one with the circle on it. You could do a micro-podcast, for example, "A funny thing happened" that was only 30 seconds or so long. Put one out whenever something funny happens. People might love to have little tidbits to drop into their playlists to balance out us long-winded blowhards. Lots of folks would be delighted just to have a female voice in the mix more often. There's only one to find out though. There's a common trait among podcasters that I listen to and admire: They do not hesitate to try something. Don't worry about failure. If you fail spectacularly enough, it wraps around to funny. If you are particularly good at failure, be a clown or hack a CVS camera and vblog some Chaplinesque stuff (yes, there are plugins to make your video jerky black and white). People will be starving for free video content in the comming months. We were hypnotized by the mass media into believing that ordinary people were not entertaining or interesting. It's a damn lie. You are an interesting person. All you need to do is edit out the boring parts as Amanda Congdon says.

regarding the sponsorship thing - recently, i commented about this to my longtime fav [and pioneering] podcaster who we both know and love (so i do kinda feel badly to risk hurting his feelings). unfortunately, i wasn't as articulate as you, Dave... i agree with your outlook. i think it important to carefully examine any agreement you might enter and be sure the contract is on YOUR terms and fits YOUR biz model/style/ethics. may be easier said than done and a difficult thing to be patient and await such, but i think it's the difference between 'selling out' and 'buying in'.
but, wadda i know... i'm just a listener and not spending lotsa time & resources making creative entertainment for others' enjoyment :/

[...] The BackBeat Media Podcast Network includes 2 of my favorite Podcasts, and one of, well, my own. That’s right, the 3 (current) Podcasts we represent are Brian Ibbott’s Coverville, Dave Slusher’s Evil Genius Chronicles, and The Mac Observer’s Mac Geek Gab. Dave Slusher has both podcasted and blogged about this, and Brian podcasted about it a couple of weeks back. [...]
