Here is the Bittorrent link and direct MP3 download for the EGC clambake for February 9, 2006.

I talk about being wiped out; I play a song from Jonathan Coulton’s thing a week; I mentioned Garrick Van Buren’s video for “Shop Vac”; I play a clip of Joe Cipriano on Weezy and the Swish and then riff on what he says to the idea of having goals that you can do consistently; I play a clip from Tony Kahn’s Blacklisted and talk a little about him; I play a live song from Southern Culture on the Skids; I talk about the Makena Music podcast; come to the Frappr map, please; I play a song from Paul Melancon; onward into the cold snowy night.

  1. Dave, in iTunes, right click on the file, select ‘Get info’, Go to the Options tab and remove the checkbox in ‘Remember playback position’

Thanks for the brain head, it’s driving my two year old crazy.

  2. I loved the “Southern Culture on the Skids” song. I’m thinking about moving to the beach now and picking up a board, one hour a day. hopefully it will happen.

    kook

  3. Good show. I did a double-take when I saw “Joe Cipriano” in the show notes. I remember Joe Cipriano as the late former coach of the University of Nebraska men’s basketball team. Slippery Cip, he was known as.

Johnathan Coulton rocks! I loved that song.

    -k-

  4. Man, you hadn’t played Southern Culture on the Skids in a long, long time. I like their goofy redneckness. Cuz redneckness is a word we should all value.

  5. OK, I have managed to listen to all the podcasts so far.

And I gotta say, the Jan 26 and January 29 podcasts were excellent. I listened to them last weekend. I don’t remember an EGC when I actually laughed as much as when listening to the Jan 26 podcast (except maybe the Lee Cuthbert and Paul Melancon interviews.) It must have been the loopyness you alluded to at the beginning of that show. The Jan 29 show was also a good and often funny one.

The music choices for the podcasts in the last two weeks have been stupendous. Again, the Jan 26 show stands out in my mind.

Overall, the last two weeks have been great! Keep up the great work, Dave! This blog and the Uplifter blog are also great of late, BTW.

  6. Not trying to spam here but I did two interviews that are relevant to this show.

I did an interview with Jonathan Coulton [http://smallworldpodcast.com/?p=248] back in November. We went over a number of things and it was encouraging to hear him talk about ditching his day job to focus on music and pushing himself to be creative with the Thing A Week. And it was a hoot to play his cover of “Baby Got Back.” I keep waiting for him to get a cease and desist from Sir Mix-A-Lot.

I also had the pleasure of interviewing [http://smallworldpodcast.com/?p=293] Tony and Gary from Morning Stories. Tony and Gary are just as warm and friendly in person as they are on their show. Tony’s family actually had to move to Mexico due to HUAC, which I consider a badge of honor.

By the way, I eant to mention this many months ago, but when I first started listening to your show I didn’t pay too much attention to your into. After repeated listening I started to pick up on the some of nuances. Especially the organ/electric piano thingy. That’s now become my favorite part of the song.

On, one last thing that’s not related to this episode. Whenever I hear that Earthlink ad and the male voice actor comes on I have an irrational desire to punch him in the face. I don’t have violet thoughts often but that guy’s voice just brings out the neanderthal in me.

    Thought you might appreciate that.
