On your local code vs remote code issue: Why not use subversion? or something like subversion. It would have saved you a lot of trouble.
When I was studying, my programming lecturer taught us a phrase; “There are two kinds of programmers, those who backup and those who don’t.”

Leo, I do use subversion. That’s one of the things I talked about being able to recover, my SVNROOT for the project. The problem was that the dev directories, production directories and repository were all on the same box and none of them were off site.
It was almost painful listening to your tale, after having gone through the same thing a few months ago. I’m glad you worked through it!
Damn! You scared the shit out of me. I had to back up what I’m working on, and mail the tar file to an off-site email account in the middle of your show. I know how great it feels to be pushed to your limit and come out ahead. A friend and I had a similar setup at work, where we ran a pretty big web site and all of our development (oru main job is not web related) on a box that crashed. Disk totally dead, our work provided backup service told us it had been failing for the last 3 months or so (oops), etc. I was reduced to going around to people’s computers and asking them if I could look through their Web browser caches for some of our pages!
Anyway, glad you recovered. When I go to work tomorrow, I’m going to make my friend listen to this podcast. I’m sure he will get a kick out of it. Maybe a new listener too.

Glad you recovered and got on-line again. I was listening to your podcast in the car and by the end I was in stop and go traffic in the city. As the music was fading, I thought - damn what a stroke of bad luck and bam - a car rear-ended me.
