Grilled Okra

I made this recipe for grilled okra tonight, and man was it good. We happened to have the World Ark magazine lying around, and I read the article on “Grub”, which is all about local and sustainable food, urban gardening and such. This recipe was a sidebar and I’m glad I saw it. Before this afternoon, I had no clue it was possible to grill okra, but now I know. Yum!

if you liked that, try grilled plantain - I made them this way last week on a whim and they were wonderful. You need a couple of ripe plantain, some oil, and salt. Slice the plantain into biggish slices (if you’ve had them before, you know what I’m talking about, if not, 1.5 inches is a reasonable size), toss with a little oil, throw in a grill basket - or I suppose you could skewer them on two the way the okra recipe does, and grill, turning frequently till done (soft and browned). Sprinkle with salt and serve.
