EGC Clambake for February 3, 2008 - “Disillusion”

Here is the direct MP3 download for the EGC clambake for February 3, 2008.

I play a rocking, honky tonking boogie woogie song from the Two Dollar Pistols; I discuss a sad anniversary; I talk about how my former hero is no longer of any interest to me; I play a song by Viva Voce and collide my world on out of here.

This episode’s egregious error of fact: Viva Voce did not come down my Sub Pop feed, they are in fact on the Amore!Phonics label. I’m really not sure where I got the MP3 from now.

Haven’t listened to the show yet but I should get onto it tomorrow, but based on the title, I can relate to the disillustion. Found out today that my job is being eliminated along with my whole office. Its a wonderful day(!).
      Bring on the podcasts

Dom, that’s terrible news. I hope you get a big severance package and then immediately get a new better job and can pocket that cash. Good luck out there. Keep your spirits up if you can.

just listened to this on my drive back from boston - totally agree w/ your take on ellison & your comparison to the troll keen…

i had to listen to andrew a few weeks back because i followed him on stage - he made no sense what-so-ever & he blamed some of the negative reaction to his book on his publisher, such a wienie & yes a royalist is what he is…

      Hey man,
      Enjoyed the show.
Ellison sounds like a bitter old man.
Sorry you have been bummed out about your dad. I feel for you brother and can totally relate to what you said about your dad’s jacket. I felt the same way about my dad’s clothes when me and Rog lost our dad (on our twenty-first birthday of all days). Hope you are feeling better.

Thanks Dave. Got a month or two before I go. Redundancy seems ok so if I pocket it, I’ll be happy. But itll just go to pay off some debts. Spirits are ok. Your podcasts always cheer me up.

I met Harlan Ellison at my last DragonCon. Some friends and I were having dinner at some steak place a couple blocks from the con, and one of the guys ran into him at the bar and invited him to join us. When it was my turn to greet him, I shook his hand and said, “Mr. Ellison, I have a lot of respect for your place in science fiction history, and your rendition of ‘Hard-Hearted Hannah, the Tramp of Savannah’ is second to none. However, I do have a few well-considered differences with some of your opinions. But rather than engaging you in civilized debate, I’d instead like to invite you to suck my dick and choke on my jizz.”

OK… wishful thinking. We did run into him, and he did get invited to join us, but somewhere between the bar and our table he decided to bolt. Guess he didn’t like being out among his public without his handlers.

I’m not kidding about “Hard-Hearted Hannah,” though.
