My Lunch Hour – 6/18/2009

There is something truly truly wonderful about living and working in a place where going to the beach is such a simple operation that I can do it for 20 minutes at lunch time and that’s reasonable. This is a view of today’s lunch. I grew up in Nebraska and Kansas where the best we had for aquatic recreation was a reservoir dug out of the dirt by the Army Corp of Engineers, the same body of water that fed the irrigation system for the surrounding crop land.
Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas have a lot of problems, the city government’s current “war on tourism” not the least of them, but it sure does make me happy to have this available to me. Nothing like returning to your desk with salt water and traces of sand on your feet.

I'll just say "you suck" ;-) and leave it at that.

The lunch beach photo seems to really have worked people up. For folks in LA or Charleston or Miami this is ho hum but for me it's still novel after 5 years here.

No worries...I'm mainly just worked up b/c my day is completely borked. Beach lunch is definitely bonus for living on the coast!

For a kid from Kansas, being able to pop to the beach for half an hour, get a coffee and go back to work still seems magical even though i've been doing it for 3 years.

It sure is a delicious perk. I make sure to take an hour "beach break" at least twice a week. The nearest beach is only 5 miles from my home office, less than 10 minutes of driving.

I was able to return to Myrtle Beach after not being there in twenty or so years. I was stationed there in the late 80’s. I spent a week there with my family and had a great time.
I wish I could eat lunch on the beach. Not many beaches in DFW. I do miss it though.
